A UBC philosophy degree gives students the analytic skills, writing abilities, and cultural knowledge necessary for many professional careers. The Honours programme is the normal route to graduate study and requires the maintenance of high academic standards.
Students contemplating applying to the Honours programme are advised to complete all Faculty of Arts distribution requirements before the end of their second year. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for admission to the Honours programme by the end of their second year. Applicants are normally expected to have obtained a grade of at least 80% in at least two of Philosophy 220, 230, or 240 and must obtain a recommendation from a philosophy instructor.
A Philosophy honours student must take at least 60 and not more than 72 credits in Philosophy.

6 credits from:100 Introduction to Philosophy 101 Introduction to Philosophy I 102 Introduction to Philosophy II 120 Introduction to Logic and Critical Thinking 125 Introduction to Scientific Reasoning 211 Greek Philosophy I 212 Greek Philosophy II 260 Science and Society Philosophy designated equivalents in Arts One or Foundations Second, Third, and Fourth Year Honours Requirements
220 Symbolic Logic I 230 and 330 Moral and Political Philosophy I and II 240 and 340 Knowledge and Reality I and II 2 of 310, 311, 314, or 315 History of Philosophy 390 and 490 Honours Tutorial An additional 24 credits from 300/400 level philosophy courses (excluding PHIL 400, 401). These may include ASIA 371, 372, or CLST 336. No more than 6 credits of ASIA 371, 372, or CLST 336 may be counted toward the required 30 third- and fourth-year credits, except with the permission of the Department.
